The EWC has a remit to provide independent advice to support the development and implementation of evidence-based education policy in Wales. To fulfil our remit we undertake research which may be published on our website or presented at one of our policy briefings which are attended by education stakeholders and practitioners.
Where we obtain your information
We obtain information from you directly through your communication with us and through your voluntary participation in research activities such as interviews, surveys, questionnaires and focus groups.
What personal information we collect
The personal data that we collect will usually include the following:
- Name
- E-mail address
- Job title
- Organisation
We may also collect sensitive personal data such as:
- Equality information
- Religious beliefs, or other beliefs of a similar nature
- Sexual orientation
- Gender
Collecting data on protected characteristics such as these can help us to better understand the diverse makeup of our registrants and how this may impact upon their experiences, assisting our efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within our organisation.
How we use your information
The EWC has a remit to provide advice to policy makers and others on matters related to the education workforce, teaching and learning. To fulfil our remit the EWC undertakes research which then may be published on our website or presented at one of our policy briefings which are attended by education stakeholders and practitioners. When you participate in our education related research any information collected is used to undertake a statistical analysis of the data. Where appropriate the EWC may link responses to the data held on the Register of Education Practitioners in order to analyse the data by other characteristics such as age and gender. When published the information is presented at an aggregated level only. If we ever intend to share the data with a third party it would be anonymised and participants would be advised of this at the outset of the research
Why our use of your personal data is lawful
In order for our use of your personal data to be lawful, we need to meet one (or more) conditions in the data protection legislation.
EWC processes your data in the performance of a public task (defined in data protection law) carried out in the public interest under section 7 of the Education (Wales) Act 2014 to provide advice to the Welsh Ministers with respect to relevant matters relating to: standards of services provided by registered persons; standards of conduct for registered persons, the fitness to practice of registered persons; the roles of the professions represented in the categories of registration; the standing of each of those professions; the training, career development and performance management of registered persons; the recruitment to and retention of registered persons in each category of registration; and the supply of registered persons.
