Safeguarding the profession and the public
New academic year checklist
Here are some quick actions to help you feel prepared and make the most of the year ahead:
- check your record – make sure your details are up to date
- re-familiarise yourself with the Code – especially important as the revised version came into effect on 1 September 2025
- explore our latest guidance and resources – from good practice guides to on-demand webinars, designed to support your professional practice
- log in to your PLP – start capturing your learning from the very beginning of the year
FtP case studies
In our latest Fitness to Practise (FtP) case study, we look at an example of where a registrant was removed from the Register following a proven case of inappropriate behaviour towards learners. These case studies are based on real life examples and created to give you valuable learning points to uphold and comply with the Code, and protect your registration.
Fitness to practise hearings
We publish information about upcoming hearings, and hearing outcomes on our website. Most hearings are held in public, which means you can join as an observer. Information on upcoming hearings and how to attend is available on the fitness to practise pages.
Council updates
Annual reports published
Over the summer we published several statutory annual reports, which you can read on our corporate plans and reports page.
Could you be our new Chief Executive?
We are seeking a visionary and experienced Chief Executive to lead our strategic direction and operations. If you are interested in finding out more about the role, visit the Goodson Thomas website.

Using the PLP to support your professional development
Did you know that you can continue to use your Professional Learning Passport (PLP) throughout your career? It belongs to you and isn’t attached to any period of your employment.
If it’s been a little while since you used it, we’ve got an essential guide to your PLP on our YouTube page.
New and updated good practice guide
We have published a new good practice guide aimed at helping to support learners’ and young people’s mental health and wellbeing. The guide focusses on providing practical advice to help you identify when individuals may need help and to understand how to respond to their needs. We have also updated our good practice guide on mental health and wellbeing. These guides, and all our other guides are available on our website.
Congratulations to the new QMYW holders
Congratulations to Ceredigion Youth Service for achieving their bronze quality mark, and to Duke of Edinburgh Wales, Cardiff YMCA, and Conwy Youth, on renewing theirs.
If you, or somebody you know is involved in youth work and wants to give back, then we’re always looking for new quality mark assessors. Find out more and apply on our website.

For the first time this year, that will include information on adult learning practitioners and principals or senior leaders working in further education. Register your free place now.
In case you missed it
Diolch for coming
Thank you to everybody who came to visit our stands at the various events we attended over the summer. We valued the chance to talk to registrants, parents/guardians, and learners of all ages about our work, answer questions, and talk about our work. There are still a couple more to attend before the end of the year including the National Education Show in Cardiff this October. Be sure to pop by and say hello if you are attending.
Got something to share?
We are always on the lookout for contributors to our blog and our podcast, Sgwrsio with the EWC. If you think that you could contribute to a podcast, particularly on the subject of science, and anti-racist practice, get in touch. Similarly, if you’ve got a blog or an idea for a blog,
