We have a statutory responsibility to:
- accredit programmes of Initial Teacher Education (ITE)
- monitor compliance of accredited programmes against Welsh Government criteria
- withdraw accreditation of programmes
All ITE programmes offered by partnerships in Wales are assessed, evaluated, and monitored against the Welsh Government’s Criteria for the accreditation of ITE programmes in Wales. This is carried out by our ITE Accreditation Board.
What is accreditation?
Accreditation, and the monitoring that follows, is essential to ensure that educational performance in schools continually improves. It enables more specific consideration of how the programmes will raise the quality of teacher education and development, and attract candidates with the right skills, qualifications and aptitude to enter a career in teaching.
