We commend the authors of the independent review for their thorough and considered work. We especially acknowledge the bravery and strength of those who came forward to contribute their experiences. Their voices are central to learning lessons and strengthening protection for children and young people across Wales.
The public is right to expect the highest standards from those working in education. As the independent, professional regulator, safeguarding learners and maintaining public trust in the profession are at the heart of everything we do.
We welcome the review’s recommendations, particularly those calling for statutory agencies to work more closely together to deliver strong, coordinated safeguarding arrangements. These are essential to protecting children and young people. We are committed to playing our part, working with partners across Wales to ensure we all meet our shared responsibility.
We will now carefully review the report’s findings to identify any steps we can take to further strengthen our regulatory work and continue to build public trust in the profession. We will also actively be contacting the relevant local authorities to discuss elements of the report which are appropriate to our role as the education regulator.
