Safeguarding the profession and the public
Remind your staff
It’s very important your staff’s details on our register are up to date. Encourage them to log in to their MyEWC account to make sure that all fields are current and up to date.
Looking forward to the new term
If you are appointing or have appointed staff to start in the autumn term, as an employer you have to make sure that they are registered before they start work. If they are not yet registered, there is time to get it sorted before the new term starts. They can do this on our website.
FtP case studies
In our latest Fitness to Practise (FtP) case study, we look at an example of where a registrant was prohibited following a proven case of unacceptable professional conduct in relation to being under the influence of alcohol, whilst at work. These case studies are based on real life examples and created to give you valuable learning points to uphold and comply with the Code, and protect your registration.
Attend a fitness to practise hearing
Most hearings are held in public meaning you can join as an observer. Information on upcoming hearings and how to attend is available on the fitness to practise pages.
Updated Code
Following the consultation period earlier this year, we are currently in the process of updating our Code of Professional Conduct and Practice. We will be publishing it in September, and will be in touch to let you know when it’s published.
Council updates

Guidance, resources, and professional services
Congratulations to the new QMYW holders
Congratulations to Mind in Gwent and Wales Federation of young Farmers for their first bronze award, and to the Welsh Centre for International Affairs for reaccrediting their bronze award. If you, or somebody you know is involved in youth work, and wants to give back, then we’re always looking for new quality mark assessors. Find out more and apply on our website.
Using the PLP to support your employees
We continue to work with a range of organisations, developing templates in the Professional Learning Passport (PLP) to support registrants’ professional development and reflection. Find out more about what the PLP can do for you and your employees.
Summer events
You may have seen us in a few events already this summer - Urdd, Pride, Mela, to name a few! There are more chances to come and have a chat with us in the coming weeks including at the Royal Welsh in July, and the national Eisteddfod in Wrexham in August. We’ll be there with Educators Wales, so come and say shwmae.
Masterclass: the developing brain in a modern educational context
If you, or your staff, missed our annual masterclass event back in May, a recording of the event is now available on our YouTube channel. We also caught up with Dr Dean Burnett in a special episode of our podcast, Sgwrsio with the EWC, to answer the questions we didn’t have time to ask during the event.
A number of Dean’s books are available free of charge to all EWC registrants via EBSCO. Encourage your staff to check out the most recent edition of Meddwl Mawr, for information about the books now available.

Annual Education Workforce Statistics
The 2025 edition of the annual education workforce statistics will be published by the end of July. It is produced using data from our Register of Education Practitioners.
We will also be publishing ITE results over the summer. You will be able to see the results, when they are published, on our website.
We will be holding a briefing session on the statistics in the autumn term. Keep an eye out for more information on both our website and social media.
Children, Young People and Education Committee
We provided oral evidence at the Children, Young People and Education Committee at the beginning of June around the topic of teacher recruitment and retention. We have access to unique insights and data in this area to help provide a clear picture of the situation in Wales.
