The Education Workforce Council (EWC) has today (7 August 2024) published its Annual Report and Accounts for the year ending 31 March 2024.
The report, which was laid before the Senedd, sets out how the EWC has performed against its strategic objectives. They also include detailed accounts for the 2023-24 financial year which have been audited by the Auditor General for Wales and received the highest levels of assurance.
Highlights from this year’s report include:
- the effective delivery of the EWC’s core function to regulate in the public interest, with over 90,000 individuals on its Register of Education Practitioners
- successfully bringing more than 2,000 staff from the independent sector on to the Register
- concluding 301 fitness to practise and suitability for registration cases
- reaccrediting eight programmes of initial teacher education and accrediting one new programme
- welcoming new members to its Council, along with a new Chairperson
- continued growth of the Educators Wales brand, making its jobs portal the biggest of its kind in Wales, featuring hundreds of the latest education jobs
- the delivery of over 500 support sessions and presentations to stakeholders
- launching a new podcast series, ’Sgwrsio with the EWC’, which offers thought provoking conversations on topics of interest to EWC registrants
- releasing of a range of resources to support registrants comply with the Code of Professional Conduct and Practice including good practice guides, animations, and professional development events
Following the reports publication, Hayden Llewellyn, Chief Executive of the EWC said “I am proud to present our Annual Report and Accounts 2023-24.
“It has continued to be a challenging time for those working in education, but through robust registration and regulation, we’ve been able to continue to safeguard learners and young people, whilst upholding public trust and confidence in the workforce.
“This report highlights not only how we’ve delivered our regulatory functions, but also how we’ve worked to positively influence education policy in Wales, promote careers into the education professions, and support our registrants through a range of highly effective guidance, resources, and services.
