EWC reflects on good practice in all new guide for registrants

The Education Workforce Council (EWC) has published the latest in its series of good practice guides, this time focussing on reflective practice.

Aimed at all EWC registrants, the guide outlines the essential elements of reflective practice, discusses the benefits, and offers practical tips for using it effectively. As with all good practice guides, it also highlights how the information within can help support registrants maintain the high standards set by the profession and comply with the Code of Professional Conduct and Practice.

On publishing the guide, Bethan Holliday-Stacey, Director of Professional Development, Accreditation and Policy said “Reflective practice is at the heart of professional growth. With our new guide, we aim to empower our registrants to take a step back, think about, and analyse their professional practice, all with the aim of continual improvement.”

One specific tool highlighted within the guide to support reflection is the Professional Learning Passport (PLP). Funded by Welsh Government, and delivered by the EWC, the PLP is a flexible online e-portfolio available to all EWC registrants. It’s packed with features that are designed to support them in capturing, reflecting, sharing, and planning their learning.

The guide follows the release of Leading Reflective Practice – Reviewing the Evidence, a research paper jointly commissioned by the EWC and the National Association for Educational Leadership (NAEL). Authored by Professor Carol Campbell and Maeva Ceau from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, the paper offers an in-depth review exploring the concept of reflective practice, its significant impacts on education, and the leadership practices that support and encourage it.

The guide is available to read now, alongside the rest of the good practice guide series, on the EWC’s website.
